Maya Deren

She is a truly amazing filmmaker. I thought that Ashley and Tristan did a great job with their research that they did for her. Deren is a popular filmmaker that I studied a lot in other film studies classes, but  I did learn more about her in the presentation. I thought both Ashley and Tristan spoke very well to the class.

Harry Smith

I thought this was a good presentation of Harry Smith. I got good information about his life. I found it was interesting how much Smith stole. Even his friends put up with how much took from them. I couldn't be a friend to him if he stole from me. I love that he was ahead of his time with how much he experimented with drugs and folk music. He was doing that before the 60's where everyone was doing it.

Jonas Mekas

I thought this presentation had a lot of information about Jonas Mekas. I learned how much he supported other artist in the experimental world. He created a magazine and film organizations that helped tons of filmmakers. I did feel like the presentation went long. As much as I enjoyed learning about Mekas it became a bit hard after 30 plus minutes.

Art House to Mirocinema

The art house to mircocinema reading really made me happy. I feel in love with going to small film festivals watching movies in random restaurant back rooms or a basement. I love the underground feeling of watching a movie many haven't seen or would not see. I want to continue finding more art houses to go to. I believe that the Art houses are truly impacted the growth of film-making. These places give more place to reach niche audiences. You get to talk to the fans that are true cinephiles.
